Dr. A. V. S. S. Rama Rao Garu was born in a remote village, Vedurumudi,near Rajahmundry. He was born to Sri Ramachandra Rao and Bangaramma Garu. He lost his father at a very young age and completed his basic education in Rajahmundry. He graduated from Andhra Medical College as one of the third batch of students. He did his post graduation in Biochemistry and research with, Dr. Naganna Garu. He was sent to upgrade his knowledge to the renounced Harvard medical school in the year 1962 by the A. P. Government.

He worked as professor of Biochemistry at Andhra Medical College and was subsequently posted as Professor of Biochemistry at S. V. Medical College, Tirupati in 1968. He retired as Prof. and HOD Biochemistry, and Principal S V Medical College , Tirupati in November 1982.

He had trained many doctors. He held many prestigious posts in his illustrious career. He held the post of Vice principal and Principal for several years at S. V. Medical college, Tirupati. He worked as the chief coordinator for MBBS entrance examination for several batches and helped in setting up a transparent examination pattern He was instrumental in getting the subject of Biochemistry,it’s truly deserved recognition in the medical curriculum. He authored the First Indian Text book of Biochemistry and made the subject easy to understand.

His book was read by several batches of medical students across the country. He was always in the hearts of his students for his whole hearted involvement in Academics and extra curricular activities too.

He will be remembered forever for his contribution in the field of Biochemistry by his students.
